Oh YUMMY! I am in heaven.
From 24 October until 4 December there is a tapas route. (Probably the gastronomical version of a pub crawl).
What is this?
Well, there are 18 bars participating and it means for 2 euros (yes, only 2) you can have a glass of wine and a tapa.
Now the tapas are many and varied (here are a few):
o meat balls
o fillet steak
o potato croquetes
o Iberian pig’s cheek (!)
o perch
o chestnut stew
o mushrooms in a sauce
o tuna in prawn sauce
o red cabbage
o ham with melon and whiskey
o chick peas with esparragos
o adobaitos
o salmorejo
&
o alitas
but, I’ll just have to try those to find out what they are, unless of course you could enlighten me!
Not a great deal for vegetarians, but as they say over here, how about if I give you just a little bit of meat!?!
Anyway, 11 of these bars are within 5 minutes of us (and the other 7 are maximum 10 minutes* away), so RESULT!
I have the leaflet, which is amazingly informative and succinct. Including a map identifying the name and location of all the participating bars; the type of tapa they’re providing; whether it is a hot or cold tapa; the days they’re closed (if any) and their specialities.
OK, so that’s all pretty cool, but there’s more!
From any of the participating bars you can get a “passport”, here you have 8 boxes for the “stamp of the bar”. Once you have collected 8 stamps you hand in your passport to the tourist office and vote for your favourite tapa AND waiter/ress! And then receive a box of wine (3 bottles).
Well you know where I can be found over the next 5 weeks.
* Well 10 minutes on the way there (down hill) - I can’t guarantee how long it’ll take you to walk back!
