There always seems to be something going on here in Arcos.
On Monday I went to the Plaza Cabildo (this is the one next to Santa Maria church) - it had been emptied of all the cars. This in itself is a sheer delight as it generally resembles a car park. A shame, since it is a large space, big enough to accommodate a few tables and chairs, space for children to run around and a few benches for the old men to sit on and have a natter.

The reason why it had been cleared of cars was to celebrate the “DÃa del Turismo” (the day of the tourist). Local bars, hotels and restaurants set out their stall of local yumminess. We sampled mussels, prawns, black pudding, chorizo and a rather tasty black rice in squid ink. There was plenty more food on offer and lots of local wine - red and white.
Some of the local women were in full sevillanas regalia and danced. It was hot and the atmosphere was electric. All good preparation for the forthcoming feria.
